There are very interesting articles in the Times and Guardian this week, focusing on how much parents would pay for a night’s sleep and baby sleep consultants. Read more here and here.

The consultants interviewed confirm what we already know, that the main issue for children is usually “sleep associations”. There is also an interesting section on “tactics” which range from cry it out (which the techniques I use do not rely on) to “baby whispering” to co-sleeping.

I have said before that a lot of people think there is an “all or nothing” approach when it comes to crying and teaching your little one to settle himself to sleep or sleep all night. I suspect you may be relieved to hear that this is just not the case. I won’t be asking you to leave your little one to “cry it out”!

You will also see concern about the unregulated nature of sleep consultants and the fact lots of babies just learn to self settle after a while…but what if they don’t?

Helpfully I am not one of those untrained consultants, nor do I aim to give you just one night’s sleep. I am a fully qualified Sleep Sense consultant and I want your little one to be able to learn the skills to enable them to sleep soundly, as much for their benefit as yours!

Everybody needs sleep – parents and children alike!
