I had planned to blog about the effects of sleep deprivation but, you guessed it, I have a new-born daughter and am being reminded of those effects as I type.

This is not about the effect on your little one but on you and your family so have a read!! The scientists found that people of any age who slept less than 6 hours a night were 13% more likely to die than those sleeping 7-9 hours. They also found the effect of sleep deprivation is costing the UK £40 billion per year.
Lack of sleep can cause you to put on weight, increase your risk of developing diabetes, disrupt your immune system and, long term, increase blood pressure (source: NHS choices). Those things will not help the January blues!
